What is Ho & Duck?

Ho & Duck is a free web app designed to help you prepare for the Life in the UK citizenship and settlement test. Whether you are applying for British citizenship, indefinite leave to remain (ILR), or settled status, this app gives you everything you need to study effectively and pass with confidence.

The app covers every handbook chapter — from British values and the rule of law, to the history of the United Kingdom, government and politics, and everyday life in modern Britain. Study notes and practice questions are independently authored summaries of publicly known historical and civic facts, based on "Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents" (3rd edition, Home Office / TSO, Crown Copyright). No verbatim handbook text is reproduced on this site.

What does it include?

Who made it?

Ho & Duck was built by an independent developer who went through the citizenship application process and found existing free revision tools to be either outdated, incomplete, or riddled with adverts. The goal was to create something genuinely useful — accurate, fast, and free to use — for everyone preparing for this milestone.

The name "Ho & Duck" is a nod to the two cartoon characters featured in the app's logo: Ho (with the glasses) and Duck (in the graduation cap), cheering you on as you study.

Is it really free?

Yes — completely free to use, with no registration required. The app is supported by advertising through Google AdSense. If you find it useful and want to support the project, you can also buy us a coffee on Ko-fi — it is very much appreciated but never required.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Ho & Duck is a Progressive Web App (PWA). Once the app has loaded for the first time, it works without an internet connection. You can also install it on your phone or tablet via the "Add to Home Screen" option in your browser, giving you a native app-like experience with no download required.

How is my data handled?

Your quiz progress, exam results, and preferences are saved locally in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not sent to any server. There are no user accounts and no registration. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
